In the heart of the island, 5 minutes from the city center, the airport was inaugurated in 1960, some 2 kilometers north of the capital of Porto Santo. For the record, it was used as a secondary base by NATO and now boasts 3,200 meters of runway (after expansion). You can reach Porto Santo by plane from Madeira, but the connection is made by small aircraft that are often full in advance. We therefore advise you to book as early as possible if you have chosen to arrive on the island by plane. The journey takes just 25 minutes.
