A small, well-constructed museum testifying to Porto Santo's strategic position during the Portuguese expansion and to Christopher Columbus' relations with the Madeira archipelago. Maps, navigation instruments and various objects are grouped together in the house where the navigator is said to have spent almost two years. The casa dates back to the 15th century (witness the grain silos in the basement). Take a look at the portrait of Columbus painted by an Italian-Flemish artist in the 17th century.
