LE SUC DE CHAPTEUIL
Through a little more than hour walk, you will discover the remains of a castle, its doors, its enclosures and its legends. Eight interpretive panels outline the history of the Chapteuil family (including the famous Pons Pons de Chapteuil) and the Juice of the same name, above Saint-Julien. Built between the th and th centuries, there is now only a fortress base (surmounted by a cross), a door of one of the two walls and a tower. The traces of houses of serfs and craftsmen are still apparent. At the summit, you can only be contemplative before the landscape and the juices, which a table of interpretation helps us identify. The site is well maintained and the clapiers (lava flows) and organs (remains of volcanic activity) are discovered. When the castle was destroyed in 1574 by the Baron of Saint-Vidal, many stones were recovered for the construction of the neighbouring hamlets. Hiking is not recommended for people with young children (or under high surveillance) or people having difficulty walking.
