CENTRE CULTUREL BAOBAB
The history of the Baobab Cultural Centre deserves to be told. Located in the heart of Rome, it collected no fewer than 35 000 migrants in transit, before being completely emptied and closed in December 2015 by the authorities. Nevertheless, the door is far from being closed… Given the urgency of such a humanitarian crisis, the Centre reopened in June 2015. Seul's only self-managed centre, Baobab is a unique model in Italy. There is a large dormitory with showers, an infirmary and a large dining room where more than 500 meals are prepared daily. Every day, throughout the year, everyone contributes to this human adventure to help the refugees in their way. Here, every gesture counts. Italian, Cœur and adoption citizens, tourists of passage… all participate in large daily food collections (water, milk, pasta, biscuits), clothes, toiletries, medicines and toys. Accompanied by the Red Cross, a medical team is also on site twice a week. In short, a fine lesson in solidarity.
