CHIESA DI SANT'IVO ALLA SAPIENZA
Church of baroque architecture with an interior plan in the shape of a bee, emblem of the Barberini.
A masterpiece of Baroque architecture, the church is located inside the courtyard of the Palazzo della Sapienza, the seat of the University of Rome. Made by Francesco Borromini on Cardinal Barberini's commission in the mid-seventeenth century, its interior design takes the shape of a bee, emblem of the Barberinis. Notice the play of volumes on the facade as well as the spiral lantern that covers the church. It would symbolize the ascension to knowledge and to God.
