BASILICA GIULIA
A remarkable basilica with five naves in Rome.
The work of Caesar and Augustus, who completed it in 12 AD, this immense edifice housed up to four administrative tribunals at a time. Divided into five naves and three storeys high, the building, lined with a colonnaded portico, was grandiose. Remains of an elegant marble pavement have survived, engraved with curious graffiti probably left by passing players. Moving up towards the Arch of Titus, you pass the badly damaged remains of the temple of Castor and Pollux, the round temple of Vesta and the house of the Vestals.
