BASILICA DI SANTA PUDENZIANA
Remains of a basilica, whose mosaics of the apse are among the oldest in Rome.
The church of Santa Pudenziana was built in the 4th century on remains from Roman times. These remains could have come from the house of Senator Pudens, protector of Saint Peter, or from small baths. As a result, the early Christian church was redesigned several times: in the 8th century, its side naves were added, in the 12th century, the bell tower and in the 16th century, the dome. From the 4th century, only the mosaics of the apse remain, among the oldest in Rome.
