CHIESA DI SANTA MARIA DELLA CONCEZIONE DEI CAPPUCCINI
Church with 5 underground chapels covered with skulls and bones of Capuchins.
This church is famous for its five underground chapels covered with 3,700 skulls and bones of Capuchins: sensitive souls please! Access to the crypt is through a door on the right-hand side of the church. Inside, a museum dedicated to the Capuchins and a Caravaggio: San Francesco in meditazione , even if the attribution of this work has been debated. The church was built in 1626 for Cardinal Antonio Barberini, whose tomb is near the altar.
