Church with a classical basilica plan of the seventh century and a remarkable mosaic in Rome.
In the early 4th century, Saint Agnes was exposed naked to the public after refusing the city prefect. Miraculously spared by the flames, her throat was slit. The church built over her tomb has a classical7th-century basilical plan. Worth seeing: the mosaic in the apse depicts Agnes dressed as a Byzantine empress, accompanied by the church's founding popes. You can also visit the catacombs, where Saint Agnes is buried.
