CHIESA DI SAN PIETRO IN MONTORIO
Church on the Janiculum supposedly on the site of the martyrdom of St. Peter.
On the Janiculum, this Renaissance church was built for the King of Spain, Ferdinand II, at the beginning of the 16th century, on the supposed site of the martyrdom of Saint Peter. In the courtyard of the church's convent, Bramante built one of the most successful architectures of the Renaissance, the Tempietto (early 16th century). A small cylindrical temple, surrounded by a colonnade, it is the archetype of the perfection of forms and proportions by the humanists of the time.
