A remarkable pyramid in Rome, the tomb of Caius Cestius.

At the exit of the Piramide metro station is the tomb of Caïus Cestius Cestius. Built at the beginning of Via Ostiense, in 20 B.C., according to the fashion of the time, this pyramid measures 30 m on the side and is 36 m high. It was only built in 330 days, respecting the deceased's will. For centuries, it was located outside the city on Via Ostiensis, but in 274, it was incorporated into the walls of Aurelius. On the west side, a small opening leads to the burial chamber measuring 5.90 m by 4.10 m and covered by a vault.

Il peut paraître surprenant de découvrir une pyramide dans la capitale romaine et pourtant elle est bien réelle. Il s'agit du tombeau de Caïus Cestius ancien empereur romain.

Vous pourrez voir la pyramide sur la place mais on ne peut pas y entrer. Cela détonne par rapport aux vestiges romains.
