CASA DI AUGUSTO
South-facing imperial residence with excavated objects on the hill.
It is a series of houses that Augustus bought on the Palatine and which, as early as 30 BC, became his residence. This building is in the centre of the palace built by Domitian (81-96), and was the official residence of the emperors for 3 centuries. The imperial residence was south facing, dominating the Circus Maximus. You will also see a modern building: the Antiquarium. He collects the objects discovered during the excavations on the hill. Among the most interesting are the graffiti of Alexamenos (2nd century) and their strange representation of a crucified donkey.

Some rooms are worth visiting (3 when I travelled there). The entrance is very paid:
- forbidden flash
- 10 people at the same time
- prohibition to put your hands wherever it is etc.
There is a small access waiting, but the atmosphere you discover entering these rooms several ancient times and this state of preservation quickly makes us forget waiting that it had to support under the blazing sun that reigns at the top of the Palatine.
An exceptional site and in a unique condition.
