FONTANA DELL'ACQUA FELICE (OR FONTANA DEL MOSÈ)
Fountain with a niche housing a statue of Moses, by Prospero Bresciano, in Rome.
This fountain, also called the Mostra, was ordered from Giovanni Fontana by Sixtus V in order to provide water for the districts between the Viminal and the Quirinal, and especially for its beautiful villa which extended between the two hills. The old Roman aqueduct was restarted on this occasion. In the central niche is a statue of Moses, of Prospero Bresciano, who wanted to compete with Michelangelo in San Pietro in Vincoli. The Romans call it the ridiculous Moses.
