Museums in thermal baths, the most beautiful and largest in Rome.

Diocletian's baths were said to be the most beautiful in Rome. Spanning 13 hectares, they could accommodate 3,000 people. Built between 295 and 305, they were devastated in the 6thcentury and later used as a stone quarry. Remains, including funerary remains, are on display. Two museums on the site: the Museum of Roman Written Communication and the Protohistoric Museum. The site is also occupied by the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, commissioned from Michelangelo in 1561.

Thermes de Dioclétien
Détruites et de nombreuses fois modifiées, nous avons du mal à nous représenter ce qu'étaient les thermes initialement. Nous avons visité le musée épigraphique composé d'innombrables documents (diverses inscriptions gravées sur des pierres....). La visite nous a paru monotone et plutôt destinée à des spécialistes.

Une demi journée de visite minimum, entre thermes,
collections et cours intérieures.
A noter: on y trouve des distributeurs de boissons et de sucreries,
bien pratiques pour le touriste en hypoglycémie !

Les thermes sont grandioses. En prennant un ticket pour tous les sites du musée national romain, vous pourrez visiter les autres sites qui sont superbes.

This museum is very complementary to museums Altemps and Massimo (just next door), buying a ticket providing access to 4 different sites (Balbi crypt near the 'Argentine' fourum). Beautiful classes and indoor and outdoor spaces, exhibitions on the archaeological discoveries are very enriching.
