The Testaccio neighborhood is famous for its trattorias and restaurants serving local cuisine.
Included between Marmorata, the walls Aurelian and the Tiber, it takes its name from the small artificial hill, Mount Testaccio, created by a "discharge" of amphorae debris (in Latin testoe) from the port of ancient Rome. For this reason, it is also known as monte dei Cocci, mount des Shards. In the past, the area was a place of commerce, then a point of religious and playful events, which is now a meeting of Roman owls. Considered to be inhabited by "real" Romans (more than Trastevere), Testaccio is famous for its trattorias and restaurants serving local cuisine.
