This district extends outside Aurélien walls, along the Via Ostiense and to Saint Paul Basilica.

It was originally a trade area, as evidenced by the presence of the general markets, in parallel with industrial activities (with the bell, the industry bridge, the river port). At the beginning of the via Ostiense is the pyramid of Caïus Cestius, a funeral monument reminiscent of Egyptian models; next, the museum of the Centrale plant, former electric power station converted in detached seat from the Musée du Capitole, with an evocative mixture of industrial archaeology and classical archaeology. Today the Ostiense area is rich in pubs, bars, boxes (see the "Exit" section) and, in the next few years, it will become even more a place of attractions, while the general markets (already displaced outside Rome) will be replaced by the City of young people, ambitious urban project dedicated to leisure (cinemas, theatres, libraries, sports, music, etc. shows, etc.).
