PIAZZA DELLA REPUBBLICA
Square with the fontana della Naiadi, the center of the Termini district in Rome.
Republic Square is the centre of the Termini district, which was urbanised after 1870 to house the inhabitants of the new capital. It is in a semi-circle and surrounded by buildings of the time, copies of which are somewhat supported by mannerism. In the centre of the square, the fontana della Naiadi (1855), of the same construction, owes its name to the four charming bronze naiads that compose it. The remains of the Diocletian thermal baths border the square to the north. The via Nazionale, which connects it to Piazza Venezia, is a popular shopping street.
