TEMPIO DI VESTA E DELLA SIBILLA
Ruins of two monuments, with Roman architecture, near the villa Gregoriana in Tivoli.
It is near the villa Gregoriana that the ruins of these two buildings are discovered. The rectangular plan of the second is opposed to the circular plan of the first. Approximately a century separates their construction, that of Vesta dates back to the 1st century BC. These two superb testimonies of the elegance of Roman architecture were transformed in the Middle Ages into a church, which saved them from destruction: they were dedicated to Santa Maria della Rotonda and Saint George.
