THE VAGABOND HOTEL
This famous 50's motel has been beautifully renovated without losing its soul. A very good quality/price ratio and a crazy charm.
Built in 1953, the Vagabond is one of the best restored and probably the most popular Miami Modern style motels, with a vintage and glamorous feel. The rooms are bright, comfortable and well thought out. Here, there is an attention to retro detail, from the choice of colors to the furniture. The swimming pool with its restored mosaics is perfect to relax after a day of walking, before enjoying a cocktail at the pool bar. The hotel's restaurant, Mr. Mandolin, offers Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.

PROS: The hotel is really cute & kitschy. The exterior has been beautifully redone & the rooms themselves are very cute and clean. The restaurant at the hotel is great, and has a wonderful happy hour deal on both food and drinks. The pool is also absolutely lovely & Sebastian at the bar was so kind and made a great drink. There is a desk in the room should you need to do any work, and the WIFI was super fast and reliable.
Also a huge plus to have free parking on site -- at other places in Miami you are required to do valet for up to $50/night.
What is HUGE and really great is that this hotel doesn;t have those pesky "amenity taxes" that most places in Miami charge in addition to the advertised rate.
CONS: There isn't much artifical or overhead lighting in the apartment, and given that it is a motel style and most rooms are on the first floor / there are a lot of guests walking by it is tough to maintain privacy IF you want your apartment to be lit. It is really quite dark without having the blinds open & your room completely visibile to passersby.
The service isn't great. Housekeeping was quite rude & the concierge wasn't too helpful. The TV advertises that it has smart tv capabilities, but I was told very unapolegetically that it doesn't work.
My room was quiet and cozy. Dehumidifier ceiling fan and window A/C give lots of control over comfort. Front desk friendly and mattress comfortable. Despite other reviews I found lighting excellent at this category hotel. Much better than a Fairfield, Courtyard or Hilton Garden etc.
Only con is if you’re sensitive to light the entry doors to rooms have a large panel that allows light in. Great during the day but at night less so.
I’d give it 4.5+ and I haven’t even gone to the bar or diner across the parking lot. Which look amazing.
