I've stayed here 3 times this year and each time was awesome. The price is amazing for the location and quality of the stay. The staff is also really friendly, Alvin has helped me several times at the desk and he is super friendly and fast to answer any questions.

Freehand is the place you want to stay!! I am a frequent traveler and I have been to many hostels and hotels in my life. The staff is super nice. Kudos to Alexandra, she is proactive and very kind.
As a solo female traveler, safety is important for me and this place has also a guard by the door at nights.
The patio is big and aesthetically pleasing! They lend you towels for the beach too!
I totally recommend ❤️

The Manager Alessandra doesn’t treat well the guests , it seems she is not fit for a work like this.

도미토리 4인 여성방 썼는데 깨끗하고 좋았습니다. 샤워 물 수압도 좋았고, 로비도 24시간 사용가능해서 내려와서 작업하기도 좋았어요.

To the weather extremely too long to come to the table...

Here's my in-depth review of the hostel. I've chosen it mainly because of three reasons: 1) I've stayed at the one in LA and it was an amazing experience. 2) Location. 3) Price. However, I wouldn't stay again here.

- Location: the best. 2 blocks away from the beach, grocery stores, liquor store, Starbucks and Subway nearby. 1 block away from bus stops (and free trolley) that takes you almost to every place, including the Airport Express 150 bus. It's close enough to the heart of South Beach, but without the busy and noisy streets.-

- Outdoor area: really nice garden, pool, with tables, perfect to hang out, have some food and work. Really beautiful.

- Bar/Restaurant: the food menu is limited, but really good quality! The downside is that it opens at the afternoon, so no options for brunch/lunch.

- Bedroom: I was in a shared-room. Mattress really comfy, my room faced the outdoor area (where the bar is), which means you can hear the noise from the music and people at night -especially during weekends-. The worst part of the bedroom was the fact it was extremely humid, and would take at least a couple of days to get your clothes/towels dry (even though we had the AC turned on 24/7), floor/walls would become sticky and dirty, and clothes left with that humid smell :/

- Breakfast: was around $13 and there weren't many options to choose from :/

- Service-Staff: It was okay. It could use some improvement, every time I reached out with a question or a problem, they lacked willingness to solve my problem, not cooperative at all. However, the manager she was great and really supportive!

Three final things (nor positive nor negative) that can be deal-breakers for some:
1. Pet-friendly.
2. Family-Kids-Friendly
3. No shared kitchen

Alvin so kind and helpful, made everything at check-in great. The Hostel is so clean and fun. Having a great time!

Me cobraron 2 veces la misma reserva! No habia para conectar el celular y bastante sucio/viejo. No lo recomiendo.

Best hostel I’ve ever stayed!
Rooms were clean and big enough
The staff was super nice
And the general atmosphere was friendly, especially the pool area and the bar
Recommended if you’re traveling solo????

I chose this hotel for its outside seating area to be able to hang out as a guest (that is ADVERTISED on THE WEBSITE as part of the hotel features). I come to find out that in the evening the outside patio/lounge/pool area is reservation only and becomes a restaurant. Guests don't get precedence for reservations either. This is not explained anywhere on the website, especially when making a reservaiton.
As a guest at this place I should be able to sit outside within the advertised area without needing to make a reservation, and then feeling obligated to buy drinks on top of the situation.
I asked for a discount due to the false advertising and they ony are refunding my $10 per night resort fee. Then, if leave early, they will not refund me for my first night here since I've "already checked in and been in the room".
Now, I am looking for another place to stay, which is JUST EXACTLY how I'd love to be spending my vacation.
This place should be ashamed of its false advertising.

Honest review from 29 yr. old, stayed 2 nights in King Room for a quick weekend trip to Miami Beach.
If you are a young 20-something looking to meet new people and party, this is your place! Let’s just say, the vending machine in the lobby carries condoms… lol! The outdoor area is just as cute in person as it is in the photos. Definitely my favorite part of the hotel. Nice vibe, music always playing, and plenty of cute spots to sit relax. The onsite bar/restaurant doesn’t open until 5 pm. It would have been nice to be able to grab a drink or snack while we sat by the pool during the day. Even though the hotel bar was busy every night, my bf and I were able to easily drown out the distant music in our hotel room with white noise on our phones. The room could definitely use a good update. A couple of faded stains on the sheets and pillows, lesser touched items could use a wipe down, and the toilet kept running. But nothing we couldn’t deal with. For the “cheaper” price in comparison to the surround hotels, you definitely forgo a few of the typical hotel luxuries. We had a nice trip, but don’t think we will use Freehand again as we are less focused on the social scene and more focused on the amenities at this point in our lives.

Biggest Cons:
Room definitely felt lived in and not 100% clean from previous guests. (Thankfully I brought Lysol wipes).

No free drinking water available onsite. If you want water, you have to buy a bottle in the lobby for a hefty price. We went to Walgreens a few times to stock up on reasonably priced bottles of water.

Breakfast is not complimentary. $12 a day per person. Nothing impressive, mostly boring cereal. I would suggest going a block away to the Starbucks or Tropical Beach Café for that price.

Beach chairs that come included in your hotel price (resort fee $25 per day) are already veryyy worn in and borderline broken. Plastic parts are bent, and metal is rusted. But we just placed our towels over them and hoped for the best.

Biggest Pros:
Price in comparison to others.
Couple blocks from the beach!
Cute outdoor sitting area.
Good location, Ubers are everywhere.

Posizione ottima e molti servizi gratuiti. La colazione è decente. Io sono stato in una stanza condivisa, pulita e con i lockers al suo interno. Il problema più grande che potreste incontrare è che la notte è un po’ rumoroso per via del bar al piano terra, quindi se avete il sonno leggero portate tappi per le orecchie. A questo prezzo credo che non ci sia di meglio.

If you're on a budget, Freehand is a great option! The King room, though lacking in amenities and sometimes cleanliness- are comfortable and bright with some nice design touches. The outdoor areas are really the highlight though- it feels like a super lush oasis with lizards everywhere and bright colored outdoor furniture. We never found the restaurant but the cocktails at Broken Shaker were delicious- though very overpriced. We did enjoy a free cocktail on Thursday which was great. Please consider making the rooms more comfortable by adding a coffee option, maybe some bottles of water, a microwave possibly. We understand at the end of the day this is still a hostel and won't have all the amenities- but it is a great bargain.

Highly recommend. Victor and Alvin were extremely helpful and alleviated stress with their helpful suggestions! Great customer service!

Excelente Hostel, buenas instalaciones, muy limpio y el personal bien

Un sitio magnifico con una ubicación fantástica para conocer Miami , Miami beach y sus alrededores, a 3 minutos de la playa con un staff maravilloso, Williams el chico de la recepción super amable y servicial siempre con una sonrisa, dispuesto a ayudar. La parada del bus 150 y del 100, al aeropuerto y al Downtown a 2 minutos del hotel. Con servicio gratuito de toallas para la playa y de bicicletas! Sigan así. Lo unico que me extrañó es que no cuenten con mapitas turísticos.

I am truly boggled by the 5 star reviews… Seems a little fishy. This is by far the most disgusting place I have ever stayed in (for the $). I’m sure there are plenty of undesirable cheaply locations. My room was smelly and stale. Rooms are very small with a dingy closet twice the size of an extremely tiny bathroom. If you want to feel like you are staying in a 1800’s Spanish missionary, stay here. Rooms do not have a coffee maker either. The rest of the hotel just looks like a paint over job. I was extremely unimpressed by not even being able to get a cup of water at the breakfast bar in the morning. It was already bad enough there wasn’t complimentary anything. I would say the the best thing about the hotel is its pool area. It’s quite beautiful and chill.

Alexandra at the front desk was incredibly helpful! The hotel is great, too, but the service was what made it exceptional.

J'y est séjourné plusieurs nuits en dortoir fille 6 lits lors de mon séjour à Miami. Cette auberge de jeunesse très sympa est située dans South Beach à 2 rues seulement de la plage et du "boardwalk", endroit super pour ce promener et voir le coucher de soleil. Les dortoirs sont spacieux, l'auberge est accueillante avec son décor coloré et vintage, le petit déjeuner buffet aux accents cubains (petites pâtisseries aux goûts exotiques) est bon et original... Mais le meilleur atout du Freehand, c'est son jardin luxuriant et sa piscine qui permettent de nager un peu et de se poser sur une chaise longue avec un bon cocktail après une longue journée ! Personnel sympa et serviable : un excellent rapport qualité / prix sur Miami.
