This festival was initiated in 1976 by the descendants of the first immigrants from the Bahamas who settled at Coconut Grove. The Goombay festival is now one of the largest festivals in the United States with respect to Afro-descendant cultural heritage. Concerts, traditional parades in the Bahamas, animation for children, sale of crafts and tasting of bahaméennes specialities. The festival celebrated its 40 th anniversary in 2016.
