FREEDOM TOWER
Beautiful octagonal tower in the heart of Downtown used as a reception center for Cuban refugees, housing a museum of art and design
In the heart of Downtown, this beautiful octagonal yellow tower with many ornaments contrasts with the skyscrapers of the neighborhood. Built in 1925 to serve as the headquarters of The Miami News, the Freedom Tower is directly inspired by the bell tower of the Giralda Cathedral in Seville, Spain. The monument served as a reception center for Cuban refugees from 1962 to 1974, which earned it the name Freedom Tower. Today it houses a museum of art and design that is being renovated as we close this guide.
