7 unusual villages built by the founder of Coral Galbes, George Merrick, evoking different styles
George Merrick, the founder of Coral Gables, had seven unusual villages built starting in 1925. The Florida Pionneer Village (Santa Maria Street) is reminiscent of New England. Three others evoke the French style: the French Country Village, the French City Village (Hardee Road) and the French Normandy Village (South Le Jeune Road). The Chinese Village (Riviera Drive) is Chinese in style. The Italian Village (Palmarito Street) imitates the Italian villas of the seventeenth century and the houses of the Dutch South African Village are similar to the farms of Dutch settlers.
