A 19,000-acre preserve, home to bison, wild horses, alligators and many other species of animals
Bison, wild horses, alligators and nearly 300 other species of animals and birds roam the 19,000-acre (7,690 ha) preserve. You can bike or ride horses on the marked Paynes Prairie trails, hike one of the eight trails, or canoe on Lake Wauburg. The 50-foot observation tower at the Visitor Center offers a magnificent panoramic view of the prairie.
