SUN OUTDOORS MARATHON
Motel with rooms for 2 to 4 people and small houses for 6 people with all the necessary comfort and equipment
This recently renovated motel is a gem! It offers rooms for 2 to 4 persons and houses for 6 persons with all the necessary comfort and equipment. It also offers RV sites. You will enjoy a nice heated pool, campfires and grills. But the main attraction is the marina with a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Mexico. The perfect spot to watch the sunset. Good to know: the motel is located near a busy road. A real good and affordable plan as there are few in the Keys.

The bathroom facilities are clean and this area is quiet. I was next to the fence and on the other side was a party boy so the Latin music was blaring until 10pm. It’s not near any restaurants so driving is a must.
I didn’t have a boat but the docks looked great. Great dockside fishing. No swimming. The pool was right on the highway so it was noisy but clean.
It was my first time to the Keys with my RV on short notice on Thanksgiving weekend so not much was available. If I had a boat this would be my first choice. I don’t have a boat so I will try to stay at a place with beach access next time.
The good- beautiful location, with a wonderful waterfront area, full of tables, a grill, and a good sized tiki. We also appreciated that they allow two night stays, rather than three night minimums like other places. Their maintenance guy was also very friendly and helpful.
The areas of improvement- the room itself was clean and recently painted, but it was obviously done hastily, having a very small toilet and low shower head. The bathroom door was also not closable, which was a known issue to the staff. We were disappointed that the pool closed mysteriously for the afternoon we planned on using it, but had re opened when we were checking out in the morning. If road noise is a bother, the motels should be left alone, as they are very close to US1 with no sound insulation. Lastly, the boating area is a tough sell, with a very narrow ramp and a basin full of sitting grass.
Sleeping here was a big issue for us. Beds are not comfortable and very very noisy. They are on metallic base that makes a squeaky noise. We could hardly sleep. Plus the noise from the motorway is very very loud. I know it’s a motel but it is so closely located to a busy highway the noise is unbearable if you are sleeping in the rooms at the front (where office is also located). Our neighbor could hear us speaking one night (and we are not loud) and was bothered (was knocking on our wall). So noise insulation is clearly an issue in this place.
Location is far from anything else, so feels very isolated. Staff was polite but indifferent.
The room was acceptably clean but there was nothing else for 3 days. No asking if cleaning is needed or any spare towels. Not what I expect for $214 per night, would have appreciated a clean set of towels.
I put 2 stars due to the modern decor compared to other motels and they were well organized (map, instructions etc).
Provided feedback to the front desk upon check out and they were totally indifferent.
Retrospectively we looked for other options in the area and there are much better options for less, so I would recommend to look around.
Great level spots and really cool looking place. I can walk out to sit by the bay and love waking up to the ocean. Right next door to the Dolphin Research Center (which was awesome) and what I believe to be one of the best restaurants in Marathon, the S.S. Wreck and Galley Grill.
Looks like a great pool, some type of rec center place with video games, great bathrooms/showers and the staff went WAY above and beyond to help me with an unexpected late check-in. First time visiting the Keys and I certainly picked the right place for a home base.
Special thanks to Tom for helping with my check-in when i got here late, after dark, confused and tired. Now my only problem is I have to leave soon to go back up north. See again soon.
