Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary where shellfish and coral collection is prohibited, promoting the marine environment
In the Lower Keys, the Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary has prohibited shellfish and coral harvesting since 1981. As a result, the marine environment has been significantly repopulated with large numbers of fish and coral. Every year in July, the Underwater Music Festival is held to encourage divers to practice this activity in a responsible way. Speakers play marine-themed music underneath the dive boats.
