EAST MARTELLO FORT & MUSEUM
Museum presenting a mixture of objects related to the history of Key West and esoteric objects such as the doll that is said to be possessed
Installed in the Fort East Martello (1862) with its imposing red granite walls, this really unusual museum remains rather unknown. There is a mixture of various objects on the history of Key West and esoteric objects that seem to come straight out of an episode of the famous series The4th Dimension... Fortunately, the room which gathers dreamlike sculptures of Stanley Papio brings a little cheerfulness to the whole... The most frightening story is by far the one of "Robert the Doll", a doll that would be possessed. This is the same doll that inspired the directors of the horror film Chucky, the blood doll. It must be said that this doll would be malevolent following a voodoo spell: all its owners have had serious problems or have seen loved ones die ... You can see this strange doll under glass and it is true that it freezes the blood. If you want to take a picture of her, it is imperative to ask for her permission otherwise she might curse you! The museum receptionist will explain this to you as soon as you arrive. You will also be able to read the thousands of scanned apology letters that scroll on a screen right next to Robert: they are from people who took pictures without his permission and who sent the pictures back out of fear, apologizing to Robert a little later... The purpose is to ward off a possible curse. In any case, this museum is clearly one of the must-sees in Key West.
