SOULOU WATERFALL
Go there and contact
To reach the waterfall, you have to follow the direction of Combani, a small panel indicates its way. You will then reach the beach and its waterfall after 20 minutes of walking in a bamboo grove, where the highest bamboos can reach 40 m. If you don't make too much noise, you will see lemurs watching you, hoping for some bananas. Once on the beach, the waterfall is on your left. The place is heavenly, a waterfall of fresh water falls directly on the beach, or in the sea at high tide. A natural shower to cool off after a bath! The beach is also pleasant and appreciated by the turtles. Be careful though, many thefts are reported at the parking lot. So we advise you to leave your vehicle in Tsingoni and to join Soulou by hitchhiking or by the GR on foot (45 min one way), rather than leaving your car unattended! Beware of the tide in this mangrove. Note also that the waterfall is a place of rituals: the fresh water is used to chase away the evil spirits of the people living there, spirits that are redirected to chickens brought for the occasion. If you arrive on the beach during a ritual, you will not be chased away but please respect the ceremony by keeping your distance. Several water sports operators offer access to the beach by sea, for a picnic break or a coconut punch during a day trip around the island or during a north-northwest trip.
