MATRIX CHURCH OF SÃO SEBASTIÃO
Gothic cathedral built between 1531 and 1547 on the site of a chapel dedicated to Saint Sebastian in Ponta Delgada.
Offering a curious succession of styles added to each other throughout its three centuries of construction, São Sebastião is a Gothic cathedral, built between 1531 and 1547 on the site of a chapel dedicated to San Sebastian, the city's patron saint. The exterior decoration is in the Manueline style (portal), very typical of the 16th century in Portugal, as well as in the Baroque style on its façade (the two doors). The interior is also remarkable.
