The center of Livramento boasts a number of fine monuments. These include the parish church, several17th-century chapels and the manor house of Nossa Senhora das Necessidades, a beautiful 17th-and 18th-century building with fine azulejos. These manor houses were built at the height of the orange cycle, when the Azores were an obligatory stopover for collecting oranges on long-distance sea voyages. These buildings were constructed from the wealth created by the cultivation of citrus orchards.
