Tea factory for free tasting of green tea, a variety found only in Maia.

This tea factory has been in operation since 1883 and still belongs to the family that founded it. If it is more authentic than the one in Porto Formoso and its equally friendly welcome, its visit is less educational. On the other hand, you will be able to admire the line of sight of the plantation and the view that is lost on the horizon; you will also be able to taste free green tea, a variety only found here. Tea growing in the Azores is original and specific to the region, so be sure to visit one of the factories.

Pas vraiment d'accueil, entrez par n'importe quelle porte ouverte et circulez à votre guise. Intéressant, sans plus. Par contre, une superbe balade fléchée de +/-6km débute à l'entrée de la propriété et vous emmène au milieu de la plantation, entre les rangées de théiers. Paysage superbes presqu'en bords de mer. Au retour, où avant de partir, on peut déguster une bien bonne tasse, ou deux, de ce breuvage.

L'une des deux fabriques de thé des Acores sachant que ce sont les deux seules existantes en Europe. Procédés à l'ancienne. Entrée gratuite. Un film sous titres en anglais est projeté. Puis ensuite nous voyons les opérateurs travailler. Dommage, nous n'avons aucune explications sur l'utilité des machines. L'accès aux champs est possible. C'est très beau à voir. Un conseil : y aller avec sa propre voiture ou prenez le bus jusqu'au gorreana et marchez ensuite jusqu'au village de pêcheurs de Maia.

It is mainly the tea plantation which is worth a visit, it is larger than Porto Formoso. However, the welcome individual is not warm, it seems that travellers organized groups are welcomed better. No explanation, for that you must go to the factory of Porto Formoso!
