DO GINJAL WINDMILL
Flemish-inspired windmill north of Vila do Porto town center, with generally red domes.
North of the city centre, it is a faithful reproduction of the island's typical windmills, built with traditional materials and techniques. Flemish-inspired, with generally red domes, about twenty mills are spread throughout the archipelago. They bear witness to the abundant production of cereals for export over the years, which has earned the island the title of "Granary of the Azores". The one in Santa Maria does not deviate from the rule even if it is only a reproduction, and deserves a look.
