POCO DA PEDREIRA
A former quarry where, for years, the stones for most of the island's buildings were quarried.
This is an old quarry. For years, stone was quarried here to build most of Santa Maria's buildings. Later abandoned, nature reclaimed the site, creating one of the island's most striking geosites. A high wall of reddish stone at the base of which a small lake has formed; a soothing place. There's a lookout point and picnic table where you can enjoy the view. To get there, take the PRC03 hiking trail on the right-hand side of the road leaving the village of Arrebentao to the east.
