FORT DE SÃO SEBASTIÃO
Fort built by order of King Dom Sebastião in the 16th, now restored as a hotel.
Dominating the historic port of das Pipas, the fort was built by order of King Dom Sebastião in the 16thcentury , probably around 1570, to defend the city. It is a fine example of the new concept of coastal protection introduced at the time. It doesn't look very imposing when compared with the fortress of São João Baptista, hence its nickname castelinho, "little castle", but it's worth a look nonetheless. Now restored as a hotel-restaurant, the view from the ramparts is well worth a visit.
