Originally erected in 1908, the solar-powered lighthouse was replaced in 1983.
Located on the promontory of Ponta do Queimado, the Serreta lighthouse was originally erected in 1908. Partially destroyed in the earthquake of January1, 1980, it was replaced in 1983 by the old metal tower of the Cacilhas lighthouse in Almada, mainland Portugal. This 12-metre high tower was eventually replaced by the 14-metre cylindrical fibreglass structure we know today. Powered by solar energy, it is unattended.
