Opened in June 2013 in the rehabilitated enclosure of the first sperm whale oil processing plant, this aquarium is more a research station and transfer platform than a simple tourist attraction. In addition to its protection mission, it contributes to the promotion of the Azorean species to the general public. To do this, the fish caught in the waters of the archipelago transit there, before being sent to aquariums around the world. So don't expect to see beautiful tanks: you'll see the other side of the picture.
