MONTE DA GUIA
A promontory overlooking Horta and Porto Pim, inviting you to discover one of the island's most beautiful panoramas from its summit.
A promontory overlooking Horta and Porto Pim, a mountain formed around a double crater gouged open by the sea, invites walkers to discover one of the island's most beautiful panoramas from its summit, thanks to this natural belvedere. At the top stands the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia, whose whiteness helped sailors find their way in the moonlight. Built in the 17thcentury , it was rebuilt to defend the town during the Second World War. The summit reaches an altitude of 145 metres, and the slopes are home to endemic plants.
