Whale processing museum, the first public industrial museum in the Azores.
Closed since the end of whaling in 1989, the factory now houses a museum retracing the treatment of these giants of the sea. Nothing was wasted, not even the bones that were turned into flour. The huge boilers, the carving knives and the inclined plane where the cetaceans were butchered remain as they were. This is the first public industrial museum in the Azores. Lots of explanations in English. A film and photos also show the steps involved in sperm whale butchering.

N'y connaissant rien à la pêche à la baleine, j'y ai beaucoup appris. Beaucoup de photos, ames sensibles s'abstenir! PAs mal de matériel et bateaux de pêche.
A museum that is not very big and where there are especially photos of the former whalers in action, and some shacks, but nothing exceptional good if you knows some already a little on the whaling. You can buy however there there pieces of flags or bone sculpted whales.
