SÃO JORGE CHURCH
Church built in 1460, where the upper choir houses a pipe organ built in 1865 by Tomé Gregorio de Lacerda.
Erected in 1460 in accordance with the will of Infante Dom Henrique, it was rebuilt in the 17th century and further modified in the 18th. As a result, today's façade is not the same as it was then. Inside, a magnificent altarpiece, donated to the town by King Dom Sebastião in the 16th century, is well worth a visit, as is the side altar with its beautiful coffered vaults and statues carved in lava stone. The upper choir houses a pipe organ built in 1865 by Tomé Gregório de Lacerda, uncle of composer Francisco Lacerda.
