TOWN HALL
A remarkable establishment opposite the public garden, offering a glimpse of Baroque civil architecture.
It provides a good overview of17th-century Baroque civil architecture in the Azores. The main portico, in carved ashlar, is flanked by Salomonic torso columns displaying the royal coat of arms of Portugal. Inside, the ceiling is carved from São Jorge cedar. A remarkable establishment in Velas, and an integral part of the town's heritage. It's right opposite the public garden, which is also well worth a visit, especially if the sun is shining... It invites you to stroll along its flower-filled paths.
