This castle belonged to the Mercoeur, Montlaur and then Poitiers Saint-Vallier families, who never occupied it.
Seat of a barony of Auvergne, it belonged to the Mercœur, Montlaur and then Poitiers Saint-Vallier, who never occupied it. The Guitards were the first to live there in the 16th century. The Bouchards succeeded them. The latter created conflicts with the neighbouring fiefs, so much so that one of them was sentenced to death and the castle razed to the ground. Rebuilt in the 18th century, it was looted during the Revolution. Later, it was sold to nuns and housed a school which closed its doors in 1988. Gîte d'étape open all year round, 12 places.
