It is one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture on the island of São Jorge. Built in the 18th century, in 1781 to be precise, this manor house, or "solar" in Portuguese, bears the name of the Noronha family, one of the richest and most influential families on the island of São Jorge at the time. Next door, a chapel with naturalistic ornamentation (notably on the lintel), the Ermida de Nossa Senhora dos Milagres. This unique ensemble bears witness to the privileged life of São Jorge's rural nobility in centuries gone by.
