THE SEVEN LAGOONS

Flores has seven lagoons. Caldeira de Lomba, Caldeira Rasa and Caldeira Funda, which owe their names to their different levels despite their proximity (360 m and 530 m), and finally, Caldeira Seca, Caldeira Branca, Caldeira Funda and Caldeira Compridades. At Caldeira Negra, the depth of the water reaches 108 m, the deepest in the Azores, giving the lake an almost black color that contrasts with the turquoise of its neighbor. Take the roads leading up to the lake, where there are several viewpoints from which you can admire the different geological formations.
