If you can get past the waiter's disapproving look when you arrive in your holiday clothes, this is one of Lima's best addresses. The decor is original and avant-garde, with contemporary photos and paintings. Authentic Mediterranean cuisine: tapas, pizzas or more elaborate pasta, meat or fish dishes. You can also ask for picos to accompany a good bottle of wine. Reservations recommended. In Lima, Rafael is also behind El Mercado( high-endcevichería ), Felix Comedor (chic cantina) and Rocco (Italian trattoria).
