The country celebrates its Independence, the red and white flags fly and the Peruvians display their colors with pride.
On July 28, 1821, José de San Martín put an end to three centuries of Spanish colonization. Independence is celebrated throughout the country, but particularly in the capital with fireworks in the Plaza de Armas and a military parade on July 29. It is compulsory during the whole month of July that every building raises its red and white flag. School children also march. And many wear t-shirts, jackets, badges with patriotic colors. It is traditionally a holiday period for all Peruvians.
