IGLESIA SAN PEDRO
Built by the Jesuits at the beginning of the 17th century, it resisted earthquakes better than others and, until recently, was the official place of worship of the capital's upper middle class. Its relatively simple façade hides treasures of baroque decoration, including superb gilded altarpieces. There are some beautifully made paintings hanging on the walls of the nave (including an astonishing Christ with a club); the sacristy houses works from the schools of Cusco and Quito. The lower parts of the church are decorated with azulejos that capture the soft light.
