CERRO SAN CRISTÓBAL
These colorful facades on the other side of the Rimac River catch the eye immediately. It is a pueblo joven (shanty town), where the precarious houses are made of adobe. At the top, 400 meters above sea level, the Cross of Miracles, dominates the capital from the top of its 26 m and is the culmination of a pilgrimage celebrated during the Holy Week. A small museum traces the expansion of the city since 1915. Beware, in July 2017, a tourist minibus lost control and tipped into the void. Result 9 dead. Taxi required. It is not recommended to explore the area on foot.
