QUINTA HEEREN
At the end of an alleyway, you suddenly come upon a setting worthy ofGone with the Wind. Also known as Quinta del Carmen, this property was built by a German diplomat, Oscar Heeren, at the end of the 19th century. In the early 20th century, various embassies (Japan, Netherlands, USA) were based here. It was also the home of the President of the Republic, Manuel Pardo, Oscar Heeren's son-in-law. Streets, squares and tree-lined gardens were built on its 42,000 m². Unfortunately, the quinta has fallen into serious disrepair and the area is dangerous.
