It is in the depths of these caves that we find the most ancient cave paintings recorded in Peru. The scenes depict hunters encircling a group of guanacos in red, black, green and yellow tones. They are dated to about 7,600 BC. Discovered scientifically in 1963, they are located in the heart of an arid desert at an altitude of 2,700 meters and protected by an iron gate that prevents direct access. The visit is very little promoted even at the regional level, get there by private car at about 1h15 from Moquegua.
