It was there, 8 km north of the city (about S/ 10 by taxi), that on May 26, 1880, a bloody battle took place between the Peruvian and Bolivian allies and the Chilean army. As a tribute and to remember the heroic resistance of the city of Tacna, this large monument was built on the Intiorko hill. The site's museum (open every day from 8am to 5pm) presents relics and traces of this battle: uniforms, weapons, etc.
